The Real People Theatre Company

A women's theatre company based in Yorkshire

The Real People Theatre is a women's theatre company, founded in 1999 by Sue Lister & Ann Murray. Our casts alter year by year.

We are a charity (04156840) and a company limited by guarantee (1088860).

Since 2000 we have created and presented shows for York International Women's Week each year, kindly hosted by York St John University.

Ordinary women take to the stage with their life experiences and we move from the personal to the universal, often exploring social issues.

Over the years the Real People Theatre has worked with a play off the shelf, 12 cast collaborations, 2 forum theatre productions, life stories, readers' theatre, image theatre, a poetry workshop, and a playwright who devised a script with the company - an exciting diversity!

A Real People Theatre online workshop for York International Women's Week 2021

Saturday 13 March 2-3.15pm

All welcome

The world is big and we are small - but we are all part of life's multi-coloured jigsaw.

Starting with the jigsaw of our own lives - what stories do we have to tell?

Looking round our home we can find items which have played a part in our lives and each has its own story. Where did the little bell in the shape of a lass in a Madeira costume come from? Why has that badminton shuttlecock been kept in a safe place over the years? Why do we have West Highland Terrier images dotted around our home? Why is this my favourite mug?

In A PIECE OF MY JIGSAW we can bring these items in front of the camera and talk about them for a few minutes. Having two or three items to hand will give us plenty of stories to share and will contribute to a fascinating afternoon.

Contact Sue Lister and have a chat about possibilitiies and get the link to the online workshop - 01904 488870. Hope to see you soon!
